Sean Patton
Bio
Sean is a summer student who is entering his third year of the common law J.D. program at the University of Ottawa. In 2022, he graduated with Distinction from the University of Guelph where he obtained a degree in Criminal Justice and Public Policy.
Sean approaches legal problems with a passion for innovation and advocacy. While completing his undergraduate degree, he worked as an advisor for off-campus students who were involved in disputes with their landlords. Sean also competed in several undergraduate mooting competitions, where he was awarded a Top Advocate award and served as the coach of his team. Sean continues to be an avid mooter in law school and recently won first prize in the Nelligan Moot for writing the competition’s best factum. This award earned him an opportunity to present at the 2023 East Region Solicitors Conference on the duty of good faith in contracts.
Beyond mooting, Sean continues to expand his legal curiosity by seeking out unique research opportunities. Throughout his studies, he has completed a Technoship assessing the legal impacts of urban smart cities on individual privacy rights, and a case study of Appellate jurisprudence related to the tort of intrusion upon seclusion and the rapid growth of data collection in Ontario. Sean is a forward-thinker who is passionate about learning new and developing fields of law.
In his free time, Sean enjoys hiking the Canadian Rockies, reading mystery novels, and playing sports; of which basketball is his favourite.
